Children may not be able to resume living with their own families for a number of years, and some may never go back. As a long-term foster carer you will support and care for children until they become adults and, in many cases, provide a stable foster family for life. Many children in long-term foster care arrangements may stay with you when they turn 18 and continue to live as part of your family until they are aged up to 25. When a young adult stays with your family after the age of 18 this is referred to as ‘staying put’ care.
