Leaving home is exciting and daunting for any young person, but when a young person is leaving foster care, or doesn’t have family to support them, this can be even more challenging.

If you choose to become a supported lodgings carer, you could help a young person aged 16 to 24, depending on the local authority you are with, prepare for independent living.

You will be a host for them, providing a spare bedroom but also helping with things like attending further education, job-seeking or training, and with life skills like cooking and budgeting.

Being a supported lodgings carer is different to being a foster carer and you will be assessed differently.

Supported lodgings is a great way to get started in caring for young people alongside your other commitments. Many of our supported lodgings carers decide to become foster carers later on in their journey.
